Steina J. Standerfer Bessette (Picture included)
Steina J. Standerfer Bessette, 72, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Midland Hospice House. She was born June 12, 1932, in Hartshoren, Okla. She had been a resident of the state of Kansas the past 54 years and resided in the Carbondale community for the past 23 years. She was a former member of St. Francis of Assissi in Overbrook and St. Matthew’s Parish in Topeka. Upon retiring from Blackburns Nursey Inc. in 1997, she began her genealogy search for the Bessette and her Standerfer ancestors. She shared her love for life and helping others by working parttime, spending her free tim with family, and trying to keep up with her grandchildren and all of their events. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Standerfer, of Rush Springs, Okla, in 1980; step-fathers, both of Great Bend, Louis E. Bessette, in 1973, and Dean Ratzlaff, in 2004; her husband of 24 years, Harold E. Bessette, in 1974; and her eldest son, Eldon Lee Bessette, in 1992. She is survived by her mother, Johnnie G. Ratzlaff; and sister, Twilla L. McKee and her husband, Robert, both of Topeka; and a brother, Bobby Ray Standerfer and his wife, Carole, Marlow, Okla.; two daughters, Sandra J.O. Kelly and her husband, dennis, Lyndon, and Cynthia A. Rodman and her husband, Thomas, Topeka; three sons, Edward G. Bessette and his wife, Kimberly, Pomona, Steven E. Bessette and his wife, Susan, Carbondale, and J.R. Harold E. Bessette Jr. and his wife, Wendy, Overbrook; 17 grandchildren; give great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The rosay will begin at 6 p.m. Monday with visitation immediately following until 8 p.m. at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home in Topeka. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Hal Smith. Graveside prayers will bein Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to either the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association, in lieu of flowers if desired, and sent in care of the funeral home, 800 S.W. 6th St., Topeka, 66603.
