Harold R. Bassett
GREENFIELD -- Harold R. Bassett, 94, of 32 Spruce St., died Friday (9-5-08) at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.
He was born in Conway on July 31, 1914, the son of George and Mabel (Bovat) Bassett. He attended local schools in Conway and Greenfield and had been a resident of Greenfield most of his life.
Harold was employed by the Greenfield Tap & Die Corp. for 40 years, retiring as an estimator in 1970.
He served with the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of War during WWII and attained the rank of carpenters mate second class.
He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church.
Harold loved golfing, fishing in the Connecticut lakes and his pets.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, the former Kathleen S. Scannell; two sons, Thomas of Spokane, WA, and Timothy of Easthampton; a sister, Vi Hall of Leyden; four grandchildren, Patricia, Sarah, Meagan and Patrick Bassett, and many nieces and nephews.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church with Monsignor Ronald G. Yargeau, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Calvary
Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St.
