Millard R. Bassett, 89
AUBURN - Millard R. Bassett, 89, of 34 Woodland Road, a toolmaker for many years, and a longtime active Mason, died Thursday in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Daisy D. (Paine) Bassett; two daughters, Jane E. Phillips of Auburn and Judith E. Supernor of Loveland, Colo.; a brother, Harold Bassett of Greenfield; a sister, Violet Hall of Leyden; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was born in Conway, son of George and Mabel (Bovart) Bassett, and lived here many years.
Mr. Bassett owned and operated A.C. Manufacturing for 15 years. He was later a toolmaker at several area companies for many years, most recently for eight years at Allied Metal Products Co. in Worcester. He retired in 1992.
Mr. Bassett was a member of Hadwen Park Congregational Church in Worcester for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Worcester County Horticultural Society in Boylston; a member of the Worcester Rock & Mineral Club. He was an ardent round- and square-dancer. He was a longtime volunteer for the Worcester Ostomy Association.
Mr. Bassett was a member and past master of Joel H. Prouty Lodge of Masons; and Worcester County Commandery, Knights Templar. He was a member of Eureka Royal Arch Chapter and Hiram Council, Royal & Select Masters, both in Worcester. He was a member and past patron of Pakachoag Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Hadwen Park Congregational Church, 6 Clover St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., is directing arrangements.

Payne-Bassett At Parsonage
Spring-Terrace Girl Becomes Bride in Double-Ring Service
Greenfield, Aug. 19 ? Miss Daisy D. Payne, daughter of Mrs. Hugh Holmes of 18 Spring terrace, and Millard R. Bassett, son of George Bassett of Oakland street, were married at the Baptist parsonage yesterday by Rev. William J. McCullough, pastor of the church. The double-ring service was used.
The bride was attended by Miss Avis M. Payne, her sister. Francis Leany, friend of the groom, was best man. During the ceremony the bride wore a gown of pale green silk organdie with white accessories and a corsage of yellow roses. Her attendant wore yellow net with white accessories, and a corsage of pink roses.
Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride?s mother for the bridal party and immediatge families. The couple then left on a wedding trip of un-announced destination. On their return they will live at 34 Forest avenue. The bride has been employed as secretary to Dr. A. E. Johnson. The groom is a toolmaker employed by The Tap and Die corporation.
