LOUIS A. BESSETTE - BURLINGTON - Louis A. Bessette earned his angel wings on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, after an extended illness, at home surrounded by his loving family. We mourn his passing, but hold tight to the memories we have been so fortunate in making with him in our lives. To us he was our "Superman" and he will be greatly missed! He was born on Dec. 21, 1933, and graduated from Burlington High School in 1953. On Aug. 6, 1955, he married his forever love/high school sweetheart, Patricia Pecor. He lived a full life and worked for many years for Borden Milk Company and was a night manager at Rossignol, and retired from IBM. He enjoyed bowling, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots and could often be found lounged on the couch "watching" the ball game. He enjoyed and had many friends in the antique business, and seemed to know everyone, everywhere! He, with his wife by his side, instilled in his children and his grandchildren a love of yard sales, seeking out treasures, and finding a bargain. He will be watching over his loving wife of 56 years, Pat Bessette; their four amazing children, Jean Bessette of Morrisville, Julie Martin of New Hampshire, Jill King (Ken) of Essex, Mike Bessette (Karen) of Oklahoma; six loving grandchildren, Tiffany Gordon, Erika Sumner (Dennis), Andrew Martin, Joshua Martin (Anna), Jon King (Elizabeth), and Dan King (Nicole), and was affectionately known as "Papa"; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Gordon, Alexzander Sumner, and Devin Louis Tisdale; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Marilyn Pecor; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved chihuahua, Skippy. He will be welcomed home to heaven by his parents, Rose and Charles Bessette; his brothers, Donald (Irene), and Reginald; his nephew, Scott Pecor; and great-grandson, Tyler Sumner. Louis's family would like to extend a special thank you to Claire Weis and the rest of the hospice team for their kindness, patience, and understanding during this very hard time. With the deepest gratitude we recognize and appreciate the excellent care provided to our "Papa." To all who had the pleasure of knowing Louis, per his request we ask that you please join us for an informal gathering, with light refreshments, to celebrate his life, to be held Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Jill King, at 3 Thistle Lane, Essex. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in his honor to either the Visiting Nurses Association, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446, or to the Humane Society of Chittenden County, 142 Kindness Court, So. Burlington, VT 05403. Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen C. Gregory & Son Cremation Service, Shelburne.

Louis A. Bessette 12/21/1933 - 10/9/2011 A year without him... The tasks of our lives carrying us further away from the day we lost him. The nature of "losing" someone leads one to believe that their loved one will be found once again. We find him in the quiet moments in which the pain is too much for our hearts to bear. We seek our memories to soothe us. Over and over he comes back to us, always with us. His steadfast strength and profound stubborness, his quiet reassuring love, his shiny bright smile and irreplaceable sense of humor. The foundation and support he brought to our lives holds us up even in his absence. The missing of him, time does not lessen. The loving of him, time does not fade. The remembering of him, time does not steal. In our hearts and minds, our Papa, our Father, our husband, and our friend. Gone, but NEVER forgotten!
