Harold R. Bassett Jr., GE executive, at 66
Harold R. Bassett Jr., 66, of 86 Nancy Ave., a retired manager of the power transformer manufacturing section of General Electric Co. here, died Friday at home. He joined GE in 1951, and completed its production training course in 1955. In 1960, he was promoted to supervisor of requisition service, and in 1963 was named supervisor of production and inventory control. He was named unit manager of small components in 1965, and held other managerial positions. He retired in 1982.
Born and school here, he was graduated from Boston College. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a coach for Little League baseball teams, and a member of the Wahconah Country Club and American Legion Post 68. He was also a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
He leaves his wife, the former Rita M. Florini; two sons, Mark of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Michael of Pittsfield; three daughters, Valerie A. Bassett of Florence, Northampton, Sandra L. Morris of San Francisco, and Jacqueline A. Bassett of Pittsfield, and three grandchildren.
Another son, Matthew, died in 1984.
The funeral will be Monday morning at Dery Funeral Home and the church, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday afternoon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Berkshire Hospice, in care of the funeral home at 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, 01201.
