Birth year and month Jan 1880 verified by 1880 census of Clarkston, Cache, Utah. (see complete reference in census below). This census was taken on the 4th of June, 1880 and close to the time of his birth. In this census he was listed as four months old which he had just achieved on the 29th of May. Jan. was written in the space for month of birth in census year.
DEATH: Richard died on Monday 9 May 1904 in a drowning accident on Bear River at a point about one and one-half miles from Collinston known as Hampton Bridge. He was in a boat along with his nephew William Victor Bassett (son of his brother Loren Elias) and his father Loren Elias Bassett. He and William Victor died but, his father did not. In the 1880 census of Clarkston, Cache, , En. Dist. 13, Utah p.9 (BYU film #1255336) Richard Alvero was living with his parents and listed as Richard A., age 4 months, born in Jan, son, born in Utah.
In the 1900 census of Collinston Precinct, Box Elder, Utah En. Dist. 206, sheet 5 (FHL film #1241682) Richard Alvero was living with his parents and listed as Richard A., son, born Jan 1879, age 21, single, born in Utah, and a day laborer.
HISTORICAL: Richard couldn't read or write so he had his sister-in-law, Camilla Rasmussen Bassett, read to him. Camilla put cotton in her ears when she read letters to Richard from his girl friend from back east. His girl friend paid for his burial expenses.
