  Notes	Obituary, Sabbath Recorder, 13 Aug 1951 Bassett - William H., son of Samuel Clarke and Phoebe L. Coon Bassett, was born October 21, 1863, at Unadilla Falls, N.Y., and died at Bethesda Hospital, Hornell, N.Y., May 27, 1951. Mr. Bassett came to Alfred at the age of twenty to attend college and h lived there ever since. He married Myrta Bliss of Richburg in 1886 and worked for a time in her father's glove factory in Alfred. Later he learned the tailor's trade, which he practiced all his life. For about forty-five years he was manager of the Alfred Telephone and Telegraph Company. He was active in civic duties, serving as a member of the town board, as clerk of the school board for a time, and as justice of the peace for twenty years. He joined the First Alfred Seventh Day Baptist Church by baptism in November, 1887. Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. James Evans, of Alfred; three sons, Leon B., of Alfred, William D. of North Canton, Ohio; and Robert B. of Darlington, Pa.; also eight grandchildren and six great grandchildre Funeral services were held at the First Alfred Seventh Day Baptist Chur conducted by his pastor, Rev. Everett T. Harris, with burial in Alfred Rural Cemetery.
