Mrs. Mae Thomas Bassett
Born in Martinsburg, July 4, 1876
Died in Lowville, February 21, 1933
Mrs. Mae Thomas Bassett, wife of Dr. H. Arthur Bassett, who had been
seriously ill for about two years, died at 11:45 Tuesday night at her home on
Dayan street. Mrs. Bassett was a daughter of the late James and Mary Moran
Thomas and was born in Martinsburg, July 4, 1876. Following her graduation
from Lowville Academy she taught school for several years in this locality,
and at the time of her marriage, June 14, 1914, to Dr. H. Arthur Bassett she
was assistant principal of the State street school. The greater part of her
life was spent in Lowville and for many years she was prominent in the social
and civic affairs of the community. She was a member of the Presbyterian
church and its kindred societies; of Zenith Chapter, O.E.S., serving for
several years as secretary of that organization; of the Civic Club and was the
first president of the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Bassett was a loyal
Republican and for many years has been a member of the county committee,
holding the office of vice-chairman of the committee at the time of her death.
Besides her husband she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Edith Hicks, of
Lowville.
Funeral services will be held from the late home of the decease
Dayan street, Friday, afternoon at 3:30.
