Chester A. Bassett
Chester A. Bassett, 66, 1206 Schuyler St., died in Faxton Hospital today after a long illness.
He was born in Oakridge, N.Y., and attended schools there and in Palatine Bridge. He had lived in Utica for the past 50 years.
Mr. Bassett had been employed as a checker by the New York Central Railroad for 35 years until he retired 11 years ago.
Twice married, his first wife, Alice, died in 1930. In 1938, he married Mary Schultz, of Utica.
Mr. Bassett attended Centenary Methodist Church. He was a member of the local Railway Union.
Besides his wife, he leaves two step-sons, Frank Wooldridge, Washington Mills, and Edward Wooldridge, Trenton, N.J.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kent and Mrs. Mildred Penfield, both of Utica, and mrs. Marietta Brewster, Sherrill.
The funeral will be at 10:30 Friday from the Oriner Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Pascoe, pastor, of the Centenary Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 tomorrow night and from 2 to 4 to 9 Thursday at the funeral home.
