Bassett, 79, formerly of Guthrie, died Saturday July 28 in Ithaca, New York where she had been living for the last three years. Opal was born October 29, 1910 in Canyon, Texas. She was a member of Harmony Community Church in Guthrie and had been an active 4-H leader in Guthrie. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Clyde Bassett. He died in 1974. Survivors include her daughter Karen L. Merrill of Ithaca, New York; brothers, James Cotner, Pueblo, Colorado, Warren Cotner, Fayetteville, Arkansas; sisters, Edyth Schlesselman, Cleveland, Oklahoma, Letty Marshman, Boulder, Colorado and Patricia Gilmore of Garden Grove, California; granddaughters, Sara Bull and Stephanie Bull both of Ithaca, New York. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 31 at Rose Hill Burial Park. Arrangements by Smith & Kernke Funeral Directors.
