David ‘Chink’ Bassette
David "Chink" Bassette, 68, of Bloomer passed away peacefully Monday, June 10, 2013, at home in Bloomer.
David was born on May 9, 1945, in Bloomer to Jane "Betty" Cronin and Eugene Bassette.
He married Susan (Vorwald) Bassette in Racine on July 1, 1967, and later divorced in 1985.
David did a little bit of everything for work — for example, setting up bowling pins at the Bloomer bowling alley before automatic pin-setting machines were developed, and delivering pizza for Dino's in Racine for many years. David also worked at J I Case of Racine, Mare Island of Vallejo, Calif., and Jeromes of Barron. He was most remembered in his retirement years helping as a farmhand in the northern Bloomer area.
David's hobbies were fishing, golfing, gardening, snowmobiling, hunting and playing cards.
He is survived by: his daughters, Jennice (Jimmy) Cortez of Redwood City, Calif., and Ann Bassette of San Francisco; brothers and sisters Sandra Korb of Boyd, Kathy Cournoyer of Bloomer, Patrick Cronin of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jeffrey Cronin of New Auburn and Kristie (Jerry) Benson of Bloomer. David also has 15 nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins living around Wisconsin.
David was preceded in death by: his parents; stepfather Merlin Cronin; his son, Robert "Bobby" Bassette; and his brother, Jody Cronin.
Memorial services will be held at noon Friday, June 14 at Schriver-Thompson Funeral Home in Bloomer. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the service at St. Paul's North Catholic Cemetery, Bloomer.
A luncheon celebrating David's life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Bloomer 9th Ave. Park Pavilion on the northwest side of the park.
