      Edith G. Bessette 1930 2011 WEST SPRINGFIELD Edith G. (Tease) Bessette, 81, of West Springfield was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 4, 2011. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield supported by the comfort of her beloved niece, wonderful caregivers and the prayerful vigil of farflung family members. Born in Springfield on February 16, 1930, a beloved daughter of the late Earl and Goldie (Embree) Tease, she was raised on Biella Street in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, attended local schools and then worked for New England Telephone and Telegraph Company in Springfield. Edith married Robert J. Bessette on October 31, 1953 and they soon started a home and family in Longmeadow, MA. Starting in 1969, her husband's work with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company took them away from 'home' to California and thence to Japan in 1974, Korea in 1979 and Singapore in 1981. They got to travel extensively in Asia and have many adventures before moving back to California in 1984. They retired to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1992, but moved 'back home' to West Springfield in 1999. Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband of 46 years, Robert on July 29, 2000; and her dear sisters and brother, Myrtle Carty, Virginia Pescetta, Grace Henry, Ruth LaFleche and Earl Tease. She leaves behind her loving children, Alan J. Bessette and his wife, Mitsuko of Kobe, Japan and Jo Anne M. Nadritch and her husband, Alan of Benicia, CA; her two cherished grandchildren, Carl A. Bessette of San Diego, CA and Laura M. Bessette of Los Angeles, CA; her sister, Helen Dantas of Tennessee; her sister-in-law, Susan Tease of Florida and her many nieces, nephews and especially her niece, Patricia Crawford of Springfield, whose love and care saw her through these last challenging years, and the smallest but not the least, her two beloved cats, Milo & Taffy. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, July 8, 2011 beginning at the St. Pierre Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107 (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Aloysius Cemetery, 1273 Berkshire Avenue, Indian Orchard, MA 01151. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Chapin Chapel on Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the National Scoliosis Foundation, 5 Cabot Place, Stoughton, MA 02070 or on line at www.scoliosis.org <http://www.scoliosis.org/> or to the charity of the donor's choice.
