Robert J. Bessette
Robert Joseph Bessette, 72, of 7 Annie's Way, died Saturday morning at home. He was a 36-year service representative with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Division of United Technologies of East Hartford, Conn., and retired in 1991. He traveled extensively for the company throughout China, Korea, Malaysia and India. Born and educated in Springfield, he attended Western New England College. He was a longtime resident of California. He had lived in Raleigh, N.C., for seven years prior to returning to this area in 1999. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, receiving the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theater and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbons. He was commander of VFW Post 9450 in Japan from 1978 to 1980. He leaves his wife, the former Edith G. Tease; a son, Alan J. of Kobe, Japan; a daughter, JoAnne M. Nadritch of Benicia, Calif.; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday morning at St. Pierre Springfield Funeral Chapels and St. Thomas Church, with a private burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are this afternoon to early evening.
