Weddings
Mr. and Mrs. Beranrd Bassett – Betty Jean Downs (Picture included)
CADYVILLE – Betty Jean Downs and Bernard C. Bassett were married Oct. 29, 1992, in a candlelight ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Hubert and Ann Downs of Cadyville. The bridegroom is the son of the late Lloyd and Gertrude Bassett.
Mary Lou Moore of Cadyville, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Ed Nelson of Peru was best man.
Bridesmaids were Shirley Nelson of Peru, cousin of the bridegroom; Bernadatte Scharpen of Minnesota, sister of the bridegroom, and the bridegroom’s daughters, Angel and Jessica Bassett of West Plattsburgh. The flower girl was Lindsey Moore of Cadyville, niece of the bride.
Ushers were Max Bassett of Virginia, brother of the bridegroom; and Bill Downs of West Chazy, brother of the bride. Ring bearer was Matthew Moore of Cadyville, nephew of the bride.
The bridal procession was led by the bridegroom’s stepmother, Mildred Bassett. The bride was escorted by her mother and father and the bridegroom was escorted by his daughters, Angel and Jessica.
A reception was held at the Comforn Inn, Plattsburgh.
Betty Bassett graduated from SUNY Oswego with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree with a concentration in gifted and talented education. She taught grades 5 and 2 at Assumption of Mary School in Redford for two years and is now a substitute teacher.
Bernard Bassett graduated from SUNY Postdam bachelor’s degree in elementary education and SUNY Plattsburgh with a master’s degree and certificate of advanced study in administration and supervision. He taught sixth grade in Carthage and Saranac Central School Districts. He is an elementary principal at Northern Adirondack Central School and adjunct faculty at SUNY Plattsburgh.
After a wedding trip to Stowe, Vt., Bernard and Betty Bassett lived in West Plattsburgh.
