Mr. Billy Joe Bass

Mr. Billy Joe Bass, age 80, of Plainview Highway, Dunn, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Billy was born on October 30, 1937, in Sampson County the son of the late Aaron Bass and Doreen Jackson Bass. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Tutor Bass, a son, Kent Bass, a step-son, Ricky Collier, a brother, Bobby J. Bass and a sister, Eula Belle Warren. Billy was a devout Christian and a lifelong member of Spring Branch Baptist Church, he was an avid reader and had read the Bible through three times. First thing in the morning he could be found sitting in his chair reading his Bible. He was an outstanding Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, family was very important to him. A man of few words and a humble person, but was a person who helped people in a very quiet way. Billy was raised to work hard and that he did all his life, as a young man working on the farm then began a career in Diesel Mechanics working for the International Truck Company. He went to school in Ohio for diesel mechanics. He was a long distance truck driver for over 30 years. In 1985 he came off the road and became a dispatcher for Neighbors Trucking Service. He retired at the age of 79 from Sentry Vault Company. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Spring Branch Church with Reverend Michael Worley, Reverend Tim McQueen & Reverend Tom Wagoner officiating. Burial will be at a later date. He is survived by: a son: Terry Bass and (wife) Rose of Erwin, North Carolina; a daughter, Marsha Bass of Dunn, North Carolina; grandchildren: Christy Bass, Carolyn Smith and (husband) Matthew, T.J. Bass and (wife) Melissa; Joseph Bass and (wife) Emily; Susan Citro and (husband) Mike; Annie Johnston and (husband) Chris. Great grandchildren: Aaron Bass, Markus Bass, Landon Smith, Elijah Bass, Ansley Jean Bass, Amelia Kate Bass, Leanna Bass, Isabella Citro & Nathan Wilson. A special friend: Malinda Baggett. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Cromartie Miller Funerals and Cremation in Dunn, North Carolina and at other times at the home of Christy Bass, 541 Union Grove Church Road, Dunn, North Carolina. Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity or to Spring Branch Baptist Church, Dunn, North Carolina 28334.
