He married Electa about 1832 in Bennington, Genesee County, New York
BIRTH: 1860 census verifies birthplace as Connecticut (see 1860 census listing below). The calculated year of birth from all the census findings ranges from 1810-1813.
MARR.: No marriage record has been found for Richard Bassett to an Electa. Electa was found in the 1850 through 1865 censuses in the Richard Bassett household. See census listings below.
DEATH: Richard was listed in the 1865 state census of Aurora, Erie, NY, p.3 BYU# 584487). This census was taken 7 June 1865. On 28 Oct 1867, his wife was listed as Electa Norton [apparently she had remarried] in land records of Erie Co., NY. Thus, Richard must have died after June 1865 and before 28 Oct 1867. In the 1820 census of Scott, Cortland, NY, p.571 (BYU film #66) Richard Bassett was likely one of the two males under 10 years old included in the Elias Bassett household.
In the 1825 state census of Scott, Cortland, NY (FHL film #843779) Richard Bassett was likely one of the 5 males living in the Elias Bassett household.
In the 1830 census of Bennington, Genesee, NY, p.130 (BYU film #90) Richard Bassett was possibly the male between the age of 15 & 20 included in the Elias Bassett household. This entry could also pertain to his brother Alfred.
In the 1840 census of Bennington, Genesee, NY, p. 50 (BYU #91) Richard was between the age of 30 and 40. Included in his household were a female between the age of 20 and 30 [likely Electa], two females between the age of 5 and 10, and a male and a female under 5.
In the 1850 census of Chicktowaga, Erie, NY, p. 255 (BYU film #17075) the Richard Bassett household included: Richard Bassett, age 40, male, a farmer, real estate worth $700.00, born in Conn.; Electa Bassett, age 40, female, born in Conn.; Lucy A. Richard Bassett, age 42, male, born in Madison County, lived 2 years in Yorkshire, frame home valued at $100.00, farmer, owner of land; Electa Bassett, his wife, age 43, born in Cortland County; George Bassett, child, age 18, male, born in Genesee County; Jane Bassett, child, age 15, female, born in Wyoming County; Edwin Bassett, child, age 13, male, born in Wyoming County; Lorin Bassett, child, age 9, male, born in Wyoming County; and Mariah Bassett, child, age 3, female, born in Erie County. This family had lived in Yorkshire, Cattaraugus for 2 years. In this census the birthplace of Richard is listed as Madison County and his wife's birthplace as Cortland, but most likely it was meant to be the opposite. Richard's parents lived in Cortland County before moving to Genesee County.NY C3)

His wife Electa was age 49 born in Conn., his son Edwin was age 19 and born in New York, his son Loren was age 14 and born in New York, and his daughter Mariah was age 9 born in New York.
In the 1865 state census the Richard Bassett family was living at Aurora, Erie, NY, p. 3 (BYU film #825686) and included: Richard Bassett, age 53, m., farmer, born in Rhode Island; Electa Bassett, age 54, f., born in Rhode Island (Had 8 children.); and Maria Bassett, age 15, f., born in Erie County, NY. In the agricultural census Richard Bassett had 45 acres improved, 4 unimproved acres, cash value of farm worth $1900, cattle worth $450., and tools & implements worth $25. LAND: Erie County, New York Land Records, Deed Book 89, p.103 (FHL film #590052): On 17 Jan 1840 Richard Bassett and his wife, Electa, of Lancaster, Erie County, New York bought 15 acres of land in the town of Chicktowaga from Appollos Hitchcock of Chicktowaga, Erie County for $250.00. This land was part of the tract of land called the Buffalo Creek Reservation, the north centre part of the east part of lot number 49 in township 10 in the 7th range. Bounded as follows: South by a line parallel to the south bounds of said lot number 49, 11 chains & 37 links; there from 27 chains & 26 links; West by a line parallel to the east bounds, 5 chains & 31 links; north by the north part of said lot 49, 27 chains & 26 links; and east by part of lot 44, 5 chains & 40 links. Containing 15 acres. Recorded 18 March 1847.
Erie County, New York Land Records, Deed Book 132, p.191 (FHL film #590074): Richard Bassett and his wife, Electa, sold the above piece of land to John George Monate of the city of Buffalo, Erie County for $1,000.00 on 25 June 1852. Recorded the same date.
Erie County, New York Land Records, Deed Book 305, p.83 (FHL film #590160): On 28 Oct 1867 Electa Norton late Bassett of the town of Aurora, Erie, NY sold land in Aurora to George Bassett for $1.00. Beginning at NE corner of lot 63 in Aurora running southerly on the east line of said lot, 42 chains & 68 links, thence westerly 8 chains & 8 links, thence southerly 3 chains, thence westerly 2 chains & 12 links, thence northerly 45 chains & 88 links to the south line of the big tree or middle road, thence east along the south line of said Middle road 10 chains & 15 links to beginning. Containing 45 acres. Recorded 3 Nov 1870.
