Herbert Dillard Bass
Herbert Dillard Bass, the older son of Herbert Jones Bass and Mary Narcissa Dillard, was born in Durham, North Carolina, June 22, 1887, and died of meningitis, at the home of his parents in Durham, North Carolina, March 15, 1900, being twelve years, eight months and twenty-three days old.Herbert professed faith in Christ, and joined Main Street Church on April 24, 1898, and was attentive to the means of grace -- loved the church and Sunday school to the last.The pallbearers numbered two classes - active and honorary - the latter being his schoolmates and playfellows. The acting pallbearers were, Messrs V. Ballard, R. L. Flowers Jr., J. H. Southgate, W. H. Oakey, W. H. McCabe and W. W. Card. Honorary, Masters Southgate Jones, Willie Graham, Haywood McCabe, Jamie Boddie, Angier Duke and Luther Kilgo. The honorary pallbearers acted as flower bearers.
