Charles F. Bassett
Charles F. Bessette, 76, of 28 Avenue C in the Turners Falls section, died Tuesday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He worked at Hallmark Color Labs, and was previously a 28-year repairman at the former Millers Falls Tool Co. Born in this town, he was a 1943 graduate of Turners Falls High School. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a Navy veteran of the Mediterranean Theater in World War II. He coached for the Newt Guilbeault Little League, was a scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 6, and was a director of the Thomas Memorial Golf and Country Club. He leaves his wife of 53 years, the former Amelia "Millie" Markol; two sons, Gary of Easthampton and Dana of Turners Falls; a brother, Russell of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; a sister, Florence St. Germain of Springfield; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday morning at the church, with burial in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are this evening at McCarthy Funeral Home.
