Raymond H. Bessette
Raymond H. Bessette, 80, of 4 Sunrise Terrace Apartments, Turners Falls, a waiter and cook at several hotels and resorts in Florida, New Hampshire and Arizona, died Thursday at Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield. He also was a cook at the Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, and worked previously in the shipping department at the former Montague Rod & Reel Co. in Turners Falls. Born and schooled here, he was a Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, and was discharged with the rank of sergeant in 1945. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Assumption Church. He was in Daly-Solomon Post 923 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Turners Falls, and was a former member of the Eagles. He leaves two brothers, Charles F. Jr. of Turners Falls, and Russell C. of New Symrna Beach, Fla., and a sister, Florence M. St. Germain of Turners Falls. At the request of the decedent, his remains have been donated to the Boston University School of Medicine. A memorial Mass will be arranged in the church. There will be no calling hours, and McCarthy Funeral Home is in charge.
