Gabrielle Laurette (Maynard) Bessette, 88, of Elm Street passed away Tuesday at the East Longmeadow Nursing Center. She was born in Springfield on September 19, 1925. She was a graduate of the High School of Commerce in Springfield. Gabrielle lived most of her life in West Springfield with her predeceased husband George A. Bessette. She retired in 1988 from the former Bank of New England where she worked for 11 years in the operations division in West Springfield. She was a longtime Avon representative and had attained Avon President's Club status. Gabrielle was active in West Springfield as a member and past co-president of the Ramapogue Historical Society. She was also a member of the Josiah Day House Committee and served as a docent for several years. She was a communicant of the former St. Louis de France Church and more recently a communicant of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church. Gabrielle leaves a daughter and son-in-law Louise Bacon-Ogden and David Ogden of Eureka CA, three sons and their wives Paul D. Bessette and Colleen of Stafford Springs CT, Denis G. Bessette and Patricia of West Springfield MA and Pierre M. Bessette and Brenda of Hamden MA, 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and in-laws Lucille and Joe Caputo of Springfield. Calling hours will be Friday 3:00-6:00 PM at the TOOMEY-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. A Funeral Home Service will follow at 6:00 PM. There will be a burial at a later date at St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Gabrielle's name may be made to the Ramapogue Historical Society, P.O. Box 826, West Springfield, MA 01090.
