      James Boyle (1921-2009)

      James Boyle 1921-2009 WETHERSFIELD - James boyle of Wethersfield died Tuesday, August 4, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Simone (Bessette) Boyle, who predeceased him in 2008. He was born in Ludlow, MA on April 21, 1921, son of the late John and Elizabeth (Tyrell) Boyle. Jim met his wife, Simone, at a New Year's Eve party and they were wed on September 6, 1954. They moved to Wethersfield in 1955. He was a co-owner of New England Matchplate Co. in West Hartford, retiring in 1985. After his retirement, he worked at Wolcott Hill Pharmacy and then later at Spiro's Package Store. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as platoon sergeant with the 3rd Marine Division during the battles of Bougainville, Guam and Iwo Jima where he was responsible for getting supplies to the front line. Jim was very active in the Iwo Jima Survivor's Association and participated in the establishment of the Iwo Jima Monument in New Britain, CT. He was a communicant of The Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield, singing bass in the choir for many years and then as a Eucharistic Minister. Jim and Simone were very active in the Wethersfield Square Dancing Club and traveled to Japan and Korea with them. Jim enjoyed spending time doing yard work, and helping his children with their home improvement projects. He loved being with his family and always said he "has the best family, and that is what is important in life". He was proud of the fact that "his family enjoyed spending time together and that everyone gets along so well". He is survived by his son, Larry Boyle and wife Kathy of Vernon; and daughters, Lisa Griswold and husband Peter of Rocky Hill, Laura Comolli and husband Chuck of Manchester. He was "Poppa" to his nine grandchildren - Jeremy, Christopher, Erin and Megan Boyle, Kristen, Lauren and Chelsea Griswold and Matthew and Jillian Comolli. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Meagher, of Springfield, MA, in-laws, George and Gay Bessette and Lucille and Joseph Caputo, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, 2 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law. The family wishes to thank the staff at Maple View Manor, in Rocky Hill, for their compassionate care of Jim. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 8 at 12 noon at the Church of the Incarnation, Wethersfield. Burial with military honors will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to call at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill on Friday from 4 to 8 pm. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church on Saturday.
