Mrs. Lida E. Palmer
Mrs. Lida E. Palmer, widow of S. Palmer, for years a leading tinner of this city, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John T. Milbank, 1006 Walnut Street, Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock. Death was the result of a fall which Mrs. Palmer suffered while visiting the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.O. Sherman, in Trinidad, Colorado June 23, last. Mrs. Palmer was brought to Chillicothe last October by Mrs. Milbank and had been at the Milbank home since that time.
Lida E. Bassett was born September 16, 1841 in Lockport, NY. She was married to Serring Palmer in Lockport September 1, 1859. Mr. Palmer passed away October 7, 1913. The children are: Mrs. J.G. Dorsey of Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. W.O. Sherman of Trinidad, Colorado; Mrs. J.T. Milbank of Chillicothe; Alfred B. Palmer of Benson, Arizona; Dr. Edward M. Palmer of Wichita, Kansas and Donald S. Palmer of Sulfur Springs, Ark. Fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive. Mrs. Palmer always took a great interest in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was proud of them.
The religious life of Mrs. Palmer was connected with Grace Episcopal Church. She was an active member and it was only last year that she made the highest record in the church guild for her attendance. Her life typified Christian citizenship and her connection with the city dates back many years. During those years, she took her full share in the activities that lead to the betterment of the community of which she was a part. Her life was a useful one. She ever kept before her the ideals of duty which had such a marked influence in developing a well-rounded Christian character. Her death is felt as a personal loss to the entire community.
