Mrs. Elsie Herns Passes, Aged 83
Mrs. Elsie Herns, 83 years old, passed away Wednesday afternoon at the
home of her grandson, Roy H. Bassett. The funeral services were held Friday
afternoon, Rev. J. Manley Spencer officiating. Burial in Evergreen cemetery.
Mrs. Herns was born on the old Howe farm near Bucks Bridge, the
daughter of Allan and Susie Howe. About 1864 she was married to Artumas B.
Herns and moved to the village of Bucks Bridge, where she lived until 1904
when she moved to Canton where she has since made her home with her grandson,
Roy H. Bassett.
About nine years ago she suffered a stroke and has since been an
invalid, but she has been a patient sufferer, never complaining of her
affliction.
Mrs. Herns had two daughters, Mrs. Herbert Hemenway and Mrs. Nettie
Bassett, both of whom are dead.
She is survived by one brother, Heman W. Howe of Madrid, and two
grandsons Byron A. Hemenway of Rochester and Roy H. Bassett of Canton.
