Charles Bassett
Charles De Bois Bassett was born at Madison, Wis., Mar. 28, 1854, and died at Dundas Mar. 3, 1926, at the age of 71 years, 11 months, 8 days.
Two years ago Mr. Bassett suffered a paralytic stroke and while not fully recovered was able to be about with the use of a cane. On March 1, he suffered the second stroke, and the end came peacefully on March 3, at 10:45 a.m. He passed away on Mrs. Bassett?s 69th birthday.
When a small boy he with his parents came to Blooming Prairie where he grew to manhood. On October 25, 1876, he was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Smith at Austin. (The deceased was making plans to celebrate their golden wedding in October). In 1877, they came to Dundas where they made their home until about five years ago when they went to Northfield to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. C.C. Wagner. Last June they returned to their old home where he wished to spend his last days.
Being one of the earliest settlers, he is known throughout the community. He was a blacksmith and carpenter by trade, and besides these kinds of labor he was also much interested in photography and made and sold many beautiful scenes of the village.
Mr. Bassett was a quiet unassuming man, a deep thinker, and great bible student. He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family and a host of friends. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bassett, three of whom are living and attended the funeral. They are Edson Bassett of Lansing, Mich., Mrs. Ellis Pyatt of Eddyville, Ia., and Mrs. Chas. Wagner of this place. Those who preceded him in death are Naomi, Mrs. Edward Hill,, and Fred, all of whom died several years ago. Besides his wife he is survived by four brothers and one sister. They are William and Judson of Freeport, Mich., George of Blooming Prairie, Edson of Walla Walla, Wash., and Mrs. Leon Richards of St. Cloud; also 11 grandchildren.
The served were conducted by Rev. Chas. Dick of St. Paul and a quartet from Minneapolis sang. Pallbearers were Allen Conrad, Tom Ingram, C.F. Kamail, J.P. Hummel, Lora Babcock, and H. Breckenridge. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Interment was made in Groveland cemetery.

Bassett and Ervin Bassett of Blooming Prairie, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Neubauer and daughter Margaret and Ed Hill of Onarsia, Mrs. Wm. Siemers and Daughter Jean, Miss Esther Hill of Minneapolis, Mrs. Geo. Vipond and son Floyd of Grand Rapids, Mrs. T. Dourney , Mrs. Searls, Mrs. Andrwe Jensen and daughter of Rose Creek, Miss Gertrude Wagner of Romien, Ia., Glen Smith of Austin, also friends from Northfield, Faribault, St. Paul, Minneapolis, Castle Rock, Farmington, and Eureka Center.
