Mrs. Orrin Bassett, who has been a helpless invalid for many weary
months, died at her home here about 10 o’clock last Tuesday evening. Her
illness had extended over more than a year. During much of that time she was
perfectly helpless, and towards the last was deprived of the power of speech.
Through the entire term of illness her devoted husband and son have cared for
her with untiring affection, and have had the sympathy of all their neighbors,
as they have it now. Mrs. Bassett was born in Plainfield, and died at the age
of 75 years. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Russell Lamb. She was married in
early life to Orrin Bassett, their companionship having been a long and happy
one. Mrs. Bassett was a lady whose Christian character was manifested in her
every deed. She was deeply beloved in the home circle and regarded by many
nephews and nieces, to whom she had shown great kindness, with almost the same
degree of love which they would have felt for their own mother. As long as
health was spared to her she was the embodiment of helpfulness, and has been
laid to rest with grateful remembrance of the good deeds which she performed.
She was a member of the Free Baptist church in Unadilla Forks. Her husband,
Orrin Bassett, and an only son, Everell L. Bassett, survive her. She al
leaves the following brothers and sisters; E.D. Lamb of DeLancey’s Corners,
Dewitt Lamb of Plainfield Center, Delos Lamb of Hartwick, Spencer Lamb and
Mrs. Henry Buell of Plainfield, and Mrs. Francis Griffith of Syracuse. Her
funeral was held at 1 p.m. last Thursday, interment being made in the Unadilla
Forks cemetery, and in the absence of her pastor, Rev. H.E. Mansfield, the
services were conducted by Rev. R.K. Sheffield.
