They had one son, W. H. Avery, who served as a captain in the late war. He married his second wife, Achsah Hayes, in May, 1835. She died in 1870. They had a family of eight children, four sons and four daughters, Hellen, Hattie, Allen, Sylveste Rosa, Thomas, Cora and Frank. His third wife was Cyntha Gilbert, to whom he was married in 1875.
