  Notes	Joseph Bassett, son of William and Elizabeth Bassett, was born in 1635. He settled in Bridgewater and died there in 1712. He married (1) Mary Lapham, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Tilden) Lapham, in 1658. His mother in law, Mary (Tilden) Lapham, later married his father, William Bassett. Mary was bo around 1641 in Scituate, Massachusetts. She died in 1676 in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. He married (2) Martha Hobart on 16 Oct of 1677. She was the daughter of Edmund Hobart of Hingham. After his death, his widow mov Norton, where her sons located, and died there 14 Mar 1717. Joseph was constable of Bridgewater in 1669, selectman in 1670, and surveyor of highways in 1670, 1671, 1674, 1679, and 1680. He was a blacksmith like his father and brothers.
