41769 | Sussex Advertiser, July 19, 1859 Wadhurst Fatal Bird Nesting ? About seven o?clock on Monday morning last, a boy named Bassett, about 14 years old, the son of Thomas Bassett, a labourer, both working on Wickhurst farm, in the parish of Wadhurst, was sent for some purpose into the hop garden. A few minutes afterwards he was picked up dead, nearly under a large tree standing in the way in which the boy would go to the hop garden. As he has been known to climb this tree for the purpose of ?bird?s nesting,? it is supposed he did so on this occasion, and fell from the tree, which is a very high one. It appeared that he fell on his head, and that his death was instantaneous. Mr. Turtle, surgeon, of Lamberhust, was sent for, but could render no assistance. | Bassett, John (I179)

41772 | Suwannee Democrat, Live Oak, Florida, Wednesday, December 4, 2019 Melissa Bass Brison August 17, 1956 ? November 26, 2019 Melissa Bass Brinson, age 63, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. Melissa Brinson was born on August 17, 1956, to Theron Hardee Bass and Frances Elizabeth "Betty" Bass (Bullock) in Live Oak, FL. Melissa spent her formative years growing up on a farm with her family, learning the value of hard work and dedication to the people that she loved. Helping her daddy on the farm, tagging along with her older siblings Theron Jr and Kathy, and taking care of her younger brother "Bull" shaped Melissa into the person she would become. She graduated from Florida State University in 1980 with a degree in Home Economics and Early Childhood Development, which led to her career as a teacher in the Suwannee County School System for 35 years. Melissa had a passion for others above all else. She loved her husband, Terry, her son, T.J., daughter-in-law Elizabeth, grandchildren Mariana and Carter, and all of the countless students that she taught through the years in service to education and her community. It cannot be overstated the lives she touched and the hearts she nurtured. The pinnacle of her career came as she was a finalist for State Teacher of the Year in 2006. She was a devout Christian. She attended church faithfully and read her bible several hours every day. She was one of the kindest people you could ever meet, and she opened her heart and home to many people over the years and will be sorely missed. She left our world the same way she lived her life: by giving. Melissa donated her organs and was able to save several lives before passing. She was surely a miraculous woman. She was preceded in death by her father Theron, mother Betty, and brother Cliff. She is survived by her husband Terry; son T.J. and daughter-in-law Elizabeth; grandchildren Mariana and Carter; brother Theron (Kathy) of Hobe Sound, FL; sister Kathy (Donald), of Richmond, VA; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. 41778 | Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 9 April 2023 David A. ?Hap? Bassett David "Hap" A. Bassett ? Age 76, died Friday, April 7, at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was the beloved husband of Irene C. (Goveia) Bassett, with whom he built a beautiful life in their 57 years together. He was born in Somerville, MA on December 16, 1946, a son of the late Everett and Mildred (Long) Bassett. He lived in Billerica for 45 years, and then spent a few years in Hudson, FL before moving to Salem, NH two years ago. For many years David was employed as a Salesman in the Packaging Industry. He was an avid reader, and loved the Bruins, fishing and oldies music. One of Hap's greatest joys was spending time with his big family. He was the favorite uncle, the loudest leader in the Bassett family rendition of "Happy Birthday', and a jokester with his brothers and sister until his last moments. His favorite thing was always teasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, putting them in "jail" and giving high-fives and his signature whistle. We know we will be finding his secret chocolate stashes hidden for months to come and will always think of Hap with a smile. Besides his wife, David is survived by his children, Tracy Fitzgerald and her husband Stephen of Salem, NH, Brian Bassett and his fiancé Jamie Murnane of Billerica, Keith Bassett and his wife Nikki of Billerica, and Brenda Livingstone and her husband Christopher of Dracut; his sister, Jeanne Ells and her husband Tom of Salisbury, brothers John "Jack" Bassett and his wife Donna of Brockton and Philip Bassett and his wife Annette of Stoneham, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Also, Baby boy Fitzgerald, who is expected in July. There is no doubt Hap was welcomed with a party in heaven, reuniting with his parents and brother Larry, surely with a Tanqueray and tonic and lots of chocolate. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4-7 p.m. A graveside service will be held Thursday at the Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Rd., Billerica at 12:00pm. Bassett Dies At Age Of 79 Etterville, December 13 - Mrs. S.C. Bassett died at her home in Etterville at 7:30 p.m. on December 9, 1927, at the age of 79 years, 10 months, and 14 days, following a light stroke of paralysis on November 28, from which she never recovered. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, January 26, 1848, and on May 7, 1863, was united in marriage to Stephen M. Bassett at Elkhart, Indiana, and to this union eight children were born, namely: William S., of Northport, Nebraska; Allen P., of Etterville; James S., of Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. Sylvia Haxton, of Laplata; Thaddeus B., of Sumatra, Montana; Frank R., of Skidmore; and Mrs. Iva Brown, of Pueblo, Colorado. A son, Edward S., died in the year of 1914. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Early in life she united with the Methodist Church and the remainder of her life she lived a conscientious Christian. Mrs. Bassett made her home in Miller County, in and near Etterville, for more than twenty years, and it will be remembered that she, at the death of her son, Edward S. and his wife in 1914, took the three small children they left into her home and assumed the responsibility of father and mother, as well as grandmother to them. For this faithful service she will receive her reward in that better world into which she has just passed. Funeral services were conducted at Etterville Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock by Rev. Bower, pastor of the Methodist Church at Eldon, and burial was made in the Spring Garden Cemetery.
