Sherry Nell Smith Bass, 88, passed away Aug. 12, 2026, in Conroe, Texas, surrounded by her loved ones.
Sherry was born on Feb. 18, 1938, in Natchitoches, La. She attended Natchitoches High School where she participated in several groups including playing clarinet in the marching band. Following graduation in 1956, she moved to Shreveport, where she completed certification as an x-ray technician at Confederate Memorial Medical Center. Sherry worked at various places in Lake Charles, including 26 years at Moss Regional Hospital. In 1998, she was named Radiologic Technologist of the Year by the SW Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologists.
In her free time, Sherry loved to travel, read, and garden. She was a talented seamstress and cook. Family and friends were gifted her homemade mayhaw jelly, pecan tassies, filé, and cayenne pepper. For several years, she sold zucchini bread at the Ragley Farmers Market. In their 50s, Sherry and her husband Ben joined the Lake City Cyclists. They rode their bicycles locally as well as traveling to regional rides including Hotter'N Hell Hundred in Witchita Falls, Texas. Sherry was generous, kind, and a hard worker. She was devoted to her family and was the glue that held everyone together. She is loved, will be remembered often, and dearly missed.
Sherry is survived by her children, Erica Roach, Belinda Taylor, Janell Blackmon, and Ben Bass III; grandchildren, Lee, Robert, Taylor, M'lyn, Kari, Lauren, Kristin, and Keeley; 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
