WASHINGTON, Dec. 31?Mr. and Mrs. Albert E. Bassett have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Susan Musgrove Bassett, to Walter Washabaugh Finnegan, son of Mrs. Thomas J. Southerland of Charlottesville, Va., and Keystone Heights, Fla., and the late Paul W. Finnegan.
Miss Bassett was graduated from the Madeira School in Greenway, Va., and Sweet Briar College. She was introduced to society in 1950 and is a provisional member of the Junior League and a junior member of the Sulgrave Club.
The prospective bride is a descendant of John Howland, who came to this country on the Mayflower, and of Thomas Stone, a signer of the Declaration of Independence from Maryland. The engagement of her brother, Lieut. Kimbrough Stone Bassett, U. S. A. F., to Miss Carole Jean Gilchrist, also has been announced.
Mr. Finnegan was graduated from the University of Virginia and served for two years in the Army with the rank of lieutenant. He is with the Washington office of International Business Machines.
