Mary Kern-Bass, 90
A childcare specialist who worked with pre-school children, Mary Kern-Bass died Thursday, July 2, 1998, in Portland.
She was 90.
Mrs. Kern-Bass was born Nov. 11, 1907, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and had been a Vancouver resident since 1931. She was a member of Women of the Moose, Vancouver Chapter 970.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph A. Kern, who died in 1976; her second husband, Edgar I. Bass, who died in 1995; and a son, Lester R. Kern, who died in 1995.
Survivors include one son, Ronald R. Kern of Portland; one daughter, Florine Mae Skalbeck of Springfield, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Park Hill Cemetery.

Mary Kern-Bass
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 1998, in Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home in Vancouver, Wash., for Mary Kern-Bass, who died July 2 at age 90.
Mrs. Kern-Bass was born Nov. 11, 1907, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Her maiden name was Siewert. She moved to Vancouver in 1931 and was a child-care provider for preschoolers, retiring in 1980. She married Ralph A. Kern in 1935; he died in 1976. In 1987, she married Edgar I. Bass; he died in 1995.
Survivors include her son, Ronald R. Kern of Portland; daughter, Florine Mae Skalbeck of Springfield; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A son, Lester R. Kern, died in 1995.
Interment will be in Park Hill Cemetery.
