Bass-DiGiovanni Vows Said In Holy Angels Ceremony
Miss Mary Theresa DiGiovanni and David Lane Bass were married Saturday at 3 p.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church. The Rev. P.A. Van Ganzenwinkel officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dominick DiGiovanni of Portsmouth.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Jarvis Bass of Chesapeake.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a full-length white gown of silk peau de soie, buttoned up the back, designed with a slim bodice of French net appliqued with Alencon lace which was re-embroidered with fleurettes of silk braid. The long sleeves, tapered to points at the wrists, and the batteau neckline, were edged in lace scallops. The bell-shaped skirt was accented with a garland of lace floral spray.
CHAPEL TRAIN
The detachable chapel train fell from a soft bow caught with pearl loops at the waist. Her veil of English illusion was arranged from a princess crown of Alencon lace interspersed with loops of pearls and iridescent crystals. She carried a bouquet of stephanotis and royal bouquet orhicds accented with satin leaves.
Mrs. James Lucado of Portsmouth was matron of honor. She wore a pink organza dress with en Empire bodice, fashioned with a scalloped neckline and bracelet-length sleeves. Her full-length sheath skirt was covered with a bell-shaped overskirt which was draped to the side and caught up by a series of fabric bows. She wore a pearl-encrusted pink braid crown, finished with a circular veil.
BRIDESMAIDS
Miss Jackie Bishop of Portsmouth, Miss Judy Umphlett of Whaleyville and Miss MaryJane DiGiovanni of New York City were bridesmaids. They more lilac dresses and crowns identical to those worn by the honor attendant. All the attendants carried cascade bouquets of purple hybrid orchids accented with orchid satin leaves.
Miss Toni Bennett was flower girl. She wore a dress of white chiffon with full-length skirt. The slim bodice was covered by a lace bolero jacket. She wore a white crown outlined with pearls and finished with a circular veil She carried a basket of white rose petals.
Jame DiGiovanni was ring bearer.
Danny Bass of Chesapeake was best man.
Groomsmen were James Lucado, Richard DiGiovanni and James Brewer, all of Portsmouth, and Kennen Bass of Chesapeake.
The bride?s mother selected an azalea silk chiffon afternoon dress with a draped bodice, bracelet-length sleeves, scooped neckline and a circular skirt. Her corsage was of pink cymbidium orchids.
The bridegroom?s mother wore a gown with a rounded neckline and straight skirt accented with aquamarine and green brocade. Her corsage was of beige cymbidium orchids.
Mrs. Louis Homoky played the wedding music and Mrs. Michael Schrock sang. Mrs. James L. Robinson was mistress of ceremonies.
RECEPTION
A reception was held in the Knights of Columbus Home, Portsmouth.
Following the reception, the couple left on a northern wedding trip.
For traveling, the bride wore a three-piece blue mohair suit with a Chapel jacket. Her pink straw hat matched the pink wool braid of the jacket. She wore a white orchid.
The couple will live in Chesapeake.
Among the out-of-town guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Anthony DiGiovanni and family and Mr. and Mrs. Alco DiGiovanni and family, all of New York City, and Mr. and Mrs. Sarah Durante of Utica, N.Y.
