HAMPTON FALLS - Phyllis E. Bassett, 80, died Sunday at Rockingham County Nursing Home after a period of failing health. She was born in Ossipee, the daughter of Philip and Dorothy (Fall) Nute. She lived in Rye from 1949 to 1962, in Nottingham from 1962 to 1987, then in Hampton Falls from 1987 to 1998.
She lived in Rockingham County Nursing Home for the past three years and wintered in Silver Springs, Fla. She worked as bookkeeper for the Allied and New Hampshire Gas Co. in Portsmouth for more than 20 years. Bassett attended Hampton Falls First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Exeter Walking Club and a volunteer with the Exeter RSVP. Survivors include two sons, Alfred Bassett of Hampton Falls and David Bassett of Milton, Fla.; four grandchildren, including Vickie Beau of Northwood; and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, Alfred Bassett, died in 1981. Calling hours will not be held. Memorial services will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. The Rev. Kenneth Lawrence will officiate. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery in Hampton Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rockingham County Nursing Home, 117 North Road, Brentwood 03833; or Hampton Falls First Baptist Church, 3 Lincoln Ave., Hampton Falls 03844.
