Richard Jay Bass aged 59 passed away on June 27th 2018. Richard was born to Marlene and the late Melvin Bass of blessed memory on May 19th 1959 in Buffalo, New York and was a resident of Hampton Roads since 1972. He was preceded in death by his sister Deborah Bass Sadoff. He was a member of Chabad of Tidewater. He graduated from Virginia Tech for a BS. He received his DDS at VCU/Medical College of Virginia, College of Dentistry with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1985. Richard did a General Practice Residency from Yale. He moved to Portsmouth and married Dr. Patricia Lee Speer started practicing dentistry while raising their family. Rick was a Dentists Dentist. He was extremely kind and gentle. He would go out of his way to assist most anyone with a task hosting a meeting or delivering a prescription to a patient on his way home. He loved his yard, flowers, wine, and most of all, his sons. He is survived by his sons Philip Asher Bass and Benjamin Jacob Bass, his mother Marlene Herer Bass of Norfolk, His Aunt Marilyn Bass Buxbaum and numerous cousins, and his dog Talia. A funeral service will be conducted at HD Olivers Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel on Thursday, June 28th, 2018 at 2pm. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Rabbi Levi Brashevitzky, Rabbi Aron Margolin and Rabbi Jeffery Arnowitz will officiate. In Lieu of Flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Mel Bass, Debbie Bass Sadoff memorial restricted fund of the Hebrew Academy of Tidewater, 5000 Corporate Woods Drive, Virginia Beach or Chabad of Tidewater on 1920 Colley Avenue of Norfolk or Congregation Beth El on 422 Shirley Avenue Norfolk, Virginia, 23517.
