Pfc. Michael P. Bassett, son of Pearl L. Sukraw of Munith, has completed one station unit training at the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, GA.

Michael Perry Bassett
Michael Perry Bassett, age 74, passed away on December 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 7, 1950, in Gothenburg, Nebraska, to the late James Bassett and Pearl Sukraw. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his brother, James Alan Bassett; nephew, Robert Bassett; and niece, Angela Thompson.
Michael is survived by his beloved children, Lola (Marko) Murillo, Michael Bassett, John (Dan) Bassett, and James (Laura) Bassett. He was the proud grandfather of Bryan Bassett, Jimmy Bassett, Julian Murillo, Pierce Murillo, Noah Murillo, and Elizabeth Murillo. He is also survived by his brother, John Bassett; sister-in-law, Georgia Bassett; nephew, David Bassett; and special friend, Carole Murillo.
Michael cherished his close-knit circle of family and friends, embracing the love and connections they shared. A dedicated Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, he delighted in cheering for his team and found equal joy in rooting for the Boston Celtics. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he never missed a chance to celebrate their accomplishments. He had a deep love for Ford vehicles and took immense pride in his treasured Ford Mustang GT.
Michael earned his bachelor's degree in Health Sciences from Eastern Michigan University and retired from Walmart after 20 years of dedicated work.
Honoring Michael's wishes, cremation has taken place. A small, private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life and remember the joy he brought to those around him.
