Susanna Bass
Mrs. James A. Bass. Died at her home in Davis City, Iowa, June 30, 1905, at 9:45 p. m., after along illness with dropsy of the heart. Mrs. Bass was the only surviving daughter of the late Allen Scott, one of the pioneers of Decatur county. She was born on the old Scott homestead southeast of Davis City, on January 18, 1842. Mrs. Bass had been a faithful Christian all her life. She was formerly a member of the United Brethren church but for the last 14 years has been a member of the M. E. church at Davis City, She is survived by her husband, Jas. A. Bass, and eight children, namely:, Mrs. John Hollingshead and Mrs. Chas. Smith, of Sultan, Wash. Mrs. H. Jodon, of Char! ton, Iowa John A. Bass, of Helena, Montana Miss Ida B. Bass, of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. E. P. Lewis, Mrs. Frank Turpin and W. E. Bass, of Davis City. Mrs. Bass was a very patient sufferer always putting an implicit faith in him who suffered for mankind and who said "I am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth in me shall never die and though he were dead yet shall he live, and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying neither shall there be any more pain for the former things are passed away." The funeral services were conducted from the Davis City Union church on Sunday, July 2d, at 2:30 p. m., by Rev. Harvey, pastor of the U. B. church, assisted by Rev. Bingaman, pastor of the M. E. church, interment being in the Davis City cemetery.
