B. Hampton Sumter Bass
CLARKSDALE - B. Hampton Sumter Bass Jr., 76, founder and retired owner of KBH Corp., died of heart failure Wednesday at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church of Clarksdale, where he was a member, with burial in Oakridge Cemetery. Nowell Funeral Home here has charge. He had attended flight school at the University of Chattanooga and was a P47 fighter pilot in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He also was a retired planter. Mr. Bass, the husband of Elke Ossenbrink Bass, also leaves two daughters, Beverly Ann Bass Hegwood of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Ann Elizabeth 'Dibbie' Bass Foy of Memphis; two brothers, Lee Horace Bass and Jimmy Willard Bass, both of Lula; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the B. H. Bass Fund for Excellence and the KBH Research and Development Fund in care of Mississippi State University or to First United Methodist Church.
