CUMBERLAND ? William Rowe Bass, 84, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at Lions Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care. Born Jan. 17, 1930, in Miami, Fla., Mr. Bass is the son of the late Julian Gordon Bass and Ethel (Rowe) Bass. He was also preceded in death by a brother, J. Gordon Bass Jr., and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Bill was a graduate of Virginia Tech, class of 1960, where he earned his electrical engineering degree. He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean era. Bill was an electrical engineer for the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America and retired from B.A.S.F. Chemical Company, Anderson, S.C. He was a past member of the Kiwanis and served on the Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels in South Carolina. Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Ann Bass; his daughter, Kyler Merrick and husband, Steven, Duncansville, Pa.; and his son, Kevin Bass and wife, Carol, Accident. He is also survived by his grandchildren, James Merrick and wife, Allison, Phoenix, Ariz., Kara Ayaram and husband, David, Georgetown, Texas, Jeremy Merrick and wife, Suzie, Williamsburg, Va., Matthew Bass, Washington, DC, Scott Bass, Bethesda, and Emma Bass, Baltimore, as well as four great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Daren Ritchey officiating. Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard. The family would like to express their thanks and great appreciation to Bill?s special caregivers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Bill?s name to WMHS Home Hospice Care, 1050 West Industrial Boulevard, Cumberland, MD 21502 or Lion?s Center, Activities Department, Seton Drive Extended, Cumberland, MD 21502.
