Funeral Rites Held For Maurice L. Bass
Automobile Crash Victim is Buried at Greenwood

Greenwood, Nov. 15 - Funeral services for Maurice L. Bass, who met an untimely death Thursday morning in a tragic automobile accident, were held from the Presbyterian Church Saturday afternoon. This was one of the largest funerals to be held in Greenwood. Rev. M. L. Miyat was in charge of the services and was assisted by the Rev. E. E. Bonnell, of Indianapolis.

Pall-bearers were the immediate salesmen of Westinghouse Electric Co., where Mr. Bass was employed. Honorary pall bearers were the officials of the Indianapolis and Chicago plant and a close friend. They were Mr. Schmitbauer, president of the Westinghouse Electric Co., who flew here from Milwaukee to attend the funeral; Riley Delano, Chicago, one time manager of the Indianapolis plan and now financial manager of the company; Roy Brown, manager of the Indianapolis plan; Bob Rodger, Shirley Myers, of Indianapolis, and Norman Wooters, of Mansfield, O., came here with Mrs. Wooters, who are close friends of the Bass family. There were over two hundred employees of the Westinghouse Electric Co. attending the funeral. Those who acted as pall bearers and a number of those who were honorary pall bearers were all in a meeting with Mr. Bass last Monday evening in Indianapolis. The members of the Greenwood basketball squad of the local high school and a number of local close friends acted as flower bearers. Rev. Miyat use the twenty-third Psalm in his service and a song was read by Rev. E. E. Bonnell. At the close of the service, Rev. Bonnell read Tennyson's "Crossing of the Bar."

The deceased was born in Greenwood, Sept. 6, 1900, the son of Mark L. and Ell Irwin Bass. He resided here all of his life, and on June 1, 1921, he was united in marriage to Miss Thelma Branaman, also of this city. One child was born to this union, John Mark Bass, age fourteen, and a freshman in the local high school as well as center of the basketball team. Other relatives surviving are six aunts, three uncles and one brother, Irwin Bass, of Baltimore, Md.

Mr. Bass met his death early Thursday morning when an automobile in which he was riding crashed into a stalled truck near LaGrange, Ind. His sudden death came as a great shock and tragedy to his family as well as his many friends. He was one of Greenwood's most popular and well liked citizens. Mrs. Bass has expressed a wish to thank all of those who showed so much kindness toward her and the family and helped at the time in so many different ways.

The many friends, neighbors and acquaintances will greatly miss Mr. Bass and the concern for which he worked will keenly miss his jovial presence, and it will be difficult to fill his place.
