Dovie was born May 9, 1933 to the late Rossie and Thomas Gipson in Knox City. She was a deacon's wife and a hostess for church activities at Immanuel Baptist Church, which later merged with Riverside Baptist Church. Dovie and Calvin moved to Fort Worth in 1954 and became members of the church in 1955. Dovie loved to cook and can vegetables from Calvin's garden and spent many years fishing and camping with family and friends. She was also a seamstress, often making clothes for her family and friends, including wedding dresses for both of her daughters. Dovie was preceded in death by her son, Calvin E "Bubba" Bass II; daughter, Georgia Hines; grandson, Richard E. Hines; and three sisters, Lula McNair, Cassie T. Sutton and Florene Randles. Survivors: Husband of 68 years, Calvin E. Bass; daughter, Carolyn (Bob Smith); granddaughters, DeeDra (David Parrish), Jennifer Smith; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Parrish, Audrey Parrish, Callie Hines; and sister, Louise Parkman.
