James R. Bass
James R. Bass East Lansing Born August 1, 1925, to Robert and Maureen Bass, James R. Bass died July 26, 2009 at the age of 83. Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from Oldsmobile in 1980. He enjoyed spending the winters in Sarasota, Florida and was an avid golfer. He was fortunate enough to have had 4 "holes-in-one." Jim showed such courage this past year as he fought the ravages of rheumatoid arthritis and the complications from that disease. He never gave up. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, he will be missed by all who knew him. Jim is survived by Rita, his wife of 34 years; three children, Michael (Kim) Bass of Florida, R. Scott Bass of California, and Mary (Jeff) Kramer of Oregon; four grandchildren, Lana and Scott Bass, Ben and Lauren Kramer; his sister, Jean Tinsley of Georgia, and several of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave, East Lansing with his cousin, Michael West officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312, or Sparrow Hospice Services, P.O. Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909-7980 in memory of Jim. His family would like to thank the great staff at Sparrow Hospital and the wonderful nurses and caregivers at Sparrow Hospice Services. All were such a comfort to Jim and his family during these last days.
