Conductor Bass Dead
Passed Away at His Home at 10 O?clock Wednesday Forenoon
W.L. Bass, passenger conduct on the S., W. & S., W. railway, died at his home, 209 East Seventh street, at 10 o?clock Wednesday, after an illness of sever weeks with Bright?s disease.
The burial service was held at the Broadway Presbyterian church at 11 o?clock Thursday forenoon, Rev. L.P. Cain, the pastor, officiating, and the remains were taken to Eufaula, Ala., accompanied by the widow and son, for interment, leaving here at 12:48 p.m. Thursday. At the request of the family there will be no flowers.
Mr. Bass was born in Newton county, Ga., July 29, 1851, and was married to Miss Elizabeth Doughtie at Eufaula, Ala., June 13, 1877. Two children were born of the union, Mary Loud and J.C. Bass, who, with their mother, survive their father.
Mr. Bass begain railroading at the age of 26 years at Macon, Ga., and for seventeen years was in the employ of the Georgia Central railway. Later he was with the Georgia Pacific eighteen months at Atlanta, and then with the L.& N. eighteen months at Memphis and a year at Vicksburg, Miss.
He then removed to Marshall, Texas, and was with the Texas and Pacific railway eight years. In December, 1893, he came to Sedalia as a passenger conductor on the the narrow gauge and was followed six months later by his family, who have resided here continuously since.
Mr. Bass was a Mason, and also belonged to the Order of Railway Conductors and Knights of Pythias. He was a deacon in the Broadway Presbyterian church, and was a splendid citizen, devoted husband and indulgent father.
In his thirty-five years of railway service Mr. Bass held responsible positions in almost every department of the business, acquitting himself creditably in each, and truthfully can it be said of him, ?Well done, thou good and faithful servant.?
To the bereaved widow and fatherless children the sympathy of the community will be extended.

Mr. W.L. Bass Dead
A Well Known Railroad Man Expires at Sedalia, Mo.
News reached the city of the death of Mr. W.L. Bass in Sedalia, Mo., on the 19th. He formerly resided in Macon and married Miss Lizzie Doughtie, of Eufaula, Ala., sister of Mr. Punch Doughtie, and Mrs. J.H. Brown, of this city.
Mr. Bass has always been a railroad man, conductor and master of transportation. He was in a collision last spring, when he was seriously injured and had never been well since.
Mr. Bass was a good man, a loving husband and father. He left one son and one daughter, and his wife, to mourn his loss. The friends and acquaintances of the family will regret to learn of his death.
