      Sallie Elizabeth Tulloh Bass

On the morning of January 4, 1932, just as the dawn was beginning to break over the eastern horizon, the soul of Mrs. Sallie E Bass took its flight to be with God. Mrs. Bass was the eldest daughter of the late Mary Jane Link Tulloh and Noah H Tulloh of Alton, VA.
In 1901 she was led to the alter in marriage by Mr. Sam E. Bass, who proceeded her to the Better Land more than fifteen yeas ago. Upon her fell the responsibility of both mother and father to five children and other duties as well, but she did not shirk her task. To her it was a real opportunity. Daily she lived in touch with HIM, who said "I will be father to the fatherless and judge of the widow."
She was a Christian lady of the higher order, putting into daily practice the lessons of the GOod Samaritian. Her life was a benediction upon all with whom she came in contact. TO know her was to love her. But nowhere did she excel more than in her home. She was a Christian mother, who saw the possibilities in her children, and to them she gave her best. For those she loved she literally gave her life. After the stress and toil, of the years; when her children were coming into womanhood and manhood, her health began to fall. All that loving hands could do was done, but her Master was calling her to cease life's labors and enter a well deserved rest with Him. Earth is made poorer, but Heave is richer with her.
The last rites that loved ones can pay, were held at the Presbyterian church of Turbeville, VA. In the pesence of a large company of sympathizing friends, her body was laid to rest neath a mound of beautiful flowers, under the arms of the stately oaks by the side of her husband. Her soul had gone to be with God; her children turned to walk alone the paths of life, unguided by a mother's love.
"Sleep on beloved, sleep on and take thy rest.
We loved thee well; but Jesus loved thee best.
Good night. Good night, good night."
By Reverend Herbert William Landrum -
