Alex Bass Is Death Victim; Rites Monday
Alex Bass, prominent farmer of the Smithdale community, succumbed to an attack of illness in a Meridian, Miss., hospital Saturday morning at 12:10 a.m.
The deceased, 60 years of age, was a faithful member of Mount Olive Baptist church, from which last rites were said Monday morning at ten o?clock, with the Pastor, Rev. A.B. Weathersby, officiating, and friends of the family serving as pallbearers.
Member of several pioneer families of Southwest Mississippi, Mr. Bass is survived by his widow; by ix daughters, Miss Dorothy Bass, Mrs. L. Seales and Mrs. Burton Thornton, all of the Smithdale community; Mrs. Rene June Hosto, Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Amos Freeman, Liberty, and Mrs. J.T. Hancock, Brookhaven; three sons J.C., Clifton of Smithdale, and Hilton Bass, Bogue Chitto; two sisters, Mrs. Rhodus Davidson, Gloster, and Mrs. Fred Whittington, Liberty; one brother, Tom Bass, Gloster, and many other relatives.
Interment was in the Westbrook cemetery with Hartman Funeral Home in charge of services.
