Zeno Bass Jr.
Zeno Bass Jr., son of Zeno Bass Sr. and Harriett Dill Bass was born 8-AUG-1880 at Hillsdale, Iowa and passed away in the Methodist hospital Omaha, Neb. 23-NOV-1968 at the age of 88 years, three months and 15 days. Following an illness of almost a year.
He was married to Rena Gipe at Strahan, on 9-JAN-1907.
He is survived by his widow, a son Earl, Malvern; daughters Irolene Roberts, Mount Ayre and Anna Rose Coddington, Randolph; seven great-grandchildren; also a brother Louis, Glenwood and a sister Nannie Hodges, Elsinore, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Both he and his wife were members of pioneer Mills county families. Following their marriage they established a home on the farm near Strahan, residing there until this past summer when they moved to the home of their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Coddington Sr, where Mr. Bass received special care.
He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church, including several years as treasure, and where he was a faithful attendant. Being active and interested in community affairs, he was always a good neighbor.
At one time he served as a director of the Farmers Elevator and the Farmers State Bank at Strahan. He was also treasure of the school for many years and director; he helped to consolidate the district. Always appreciative of fine cattle and hogs, he was honored as a fifty-year shipper of livestock to the Omaha Stockyards.
Since his family was his main interest, he had deep concern for their welfare, particularly enjoying their music study as he too loved music, both as a listener and as a performer. He promoted education for his family and the other young people in the neighborhood. Many of them regarded him as friend and advisor and received encouragement from him.
He was a man of high principles, strict, honesty, and absolute integrity. Industry and thrift were not strangers to him in his daily living. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Mansfield Funeral Home, with Rev. Lester Hall in charge.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Wm. Hodoval, organist, and by Mrs. Ronald Gray, who sang "The Lord's Prayer"; and by Everett and Emmett Gipe, who sang "All is Well With My Soul".
Pallbearers were Richard Bass, Lyle Coddington Jr., Brian Coddington, Abel Throckmorton, LaVerne Obrecht, Ronald Gray, Robert Campbell, and Gordon Scherer. Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Kier, N.K Russell, Fred Lindburg, Art Burgoin, Edwin Leu and W.R. Byington. Mrs. LaVerne Obrecht, Mrs. Lyle Coddington Jr., Mrs. Ronald Gray, Miss Jean Roberts, Mrs. James Corbett and Miss Cindy Bass were flower girls.
Interment was in the Malvern Cemetery.
