Newberry Bass Sr.
Clinton - Newberry Bass Sr., 82, of 209 Quiet Water Lane, died Tuesday in Southwood Nursing Center. Mr. Bass was a retired farmer and a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II. The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday in Mount Gilead Baptist Church by the Reverends Larry King and Lynn Bullock. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Bass is survived by his wife, Flora A. Bass of the home; six sons, Newberry Bass Jr., Michael D. Bass, Anthony Bass, Myron Bass and Byron Bass, all of Clinton, and Scott Bass of Zebulon; a daughter, Karen Driskill of Clinton; four sisters, Crotia Blanchard and Alice Royal, both of Salemburg, Irma Peterson of Clinton and Alease Compton of Hendersonville; six brothers, Johnson Bass, Lonnie J. Bass and Carl Bass, all of Clinton, Howard Bass of Dunn, Shelton Bass of Lakeland, Florida, and Milton Bass of Fayetteville; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton. Memorials may be made to Mount Gilead Baptist Church, 3949 Taylors Bridge Highway, Clinton, North Carolina 28328.
