Cullen Kaiser Bass
Husband of Amarintha "Ammie" Augusta Jenkins.
Mr. C. K. Bass was born near Hamilton, Ga. in the year 1832. He was the youngest of 16 children. His boyhood life was a hard one, owing to the fact that the war between the states took his older brothers to help in the cause while he had the care and support of a widowed mother and older sisters. But these severe trials seemed to purify and refine his character, always of a gentle and unassuming disposition, never having been heard to speak evil of anyone, and blest with a droll Irish wit, he made friends unnumbered. His young manhood was spent at Roanoke, Ala. having kept one of the first stores ever at that place.
Forty-eight year ago he was married to Ammie A. Jenkins a sister of T. P. and Dr. R. H. Jenkins. Four children survived this union until about 7 years ago, when the youngest was called to her heavenly home.
About 35 years ago, Mr. Bass joined the Primitive Baptist Church and was baptized by Rev. A. B. Whatley and these two souls were united in a friendship band brotherhood which was very close and tender, the ties of which were broken about 10 years ago, when Brother Whatley passed on to his reward and rest.
The church was always Mr. Bass' first thought, and toward which he manifested much charity. Also many a deserving neighbor now remembers his generous helping hand.
His ideal of a real man or woman was one punctual to pay his debts and to speak evil of none.
He is survived by his widow, to whom he made the remark a few days before passing, when asked if there was anything he wanted. "Yes, I want to go to Jesus."

It could also be said that, the last week of his life was spent in singing and humming the old sacred songs, keeping time with his hand until too feeble. He seemed to suffer no pain whatever.
Besides his widow and children he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Kizzie Middlebrooks, of Glenn. The nine brothers having attained a ripe age before passing.
