SOUTH BOSTON, May 18 ? Walter Haldane Bass, 82, of near South Boston, died Monday in a local hospital. Funeral rites will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday at Cross Roads Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by five daughters, Miss Georgia Bass, of South Boston; Mrs. W.C. Pulliam of Roxboro, N.C.; Mrs. J.E. Woody of Cluster Springs; Mrs. Clay Vernon, of Milton, N.C., and Mrs. Guy H. Hawkins, of Richmond; four sons, William M. and W.H. Bass, Jr. of South Boston; John A. Bass, of Wheeling, W.Va.; Emmett and J.B. Bass, of Danville; one sister, Mrs. E.C. Grandon, of Alton; two brothers, J.C> Bass, of South Boston and J.E. Bass, of Richmond; thirty-one grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Walter H. Bass Funeral Rites Held
Final rites for Walter Haldane Bass, former president of the Federal Farm Loan Association of Halifax County, were held last Wednesday at Cross Roads Baptist Church with burial taking place in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bass, who lived on Star Route, South Boston, was nearing his 82nd birthday. He had been a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church since 1879.
A native of Powhatan County, he was the son of Alexandra C. Bass and Rebecca Mosley Bass. He married the former Miss Nannie Pace, who preceded him to the grave.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. W.C. Pulliam of Roxboro, Mrs. J.W. Woody, Cluster Springs, Mrs. Clay Vernon, Milton, North Carolina, Mrs. Guy H. Hawkins of Richmond, and Miss Georgia Bass of South Boston; five sons, William M. Bass of South Boston, W.H. Bass Jr., of South Boston, Emmett Bass of Danville, John A. Bass of Wheeling, West Virginia, and J. B. Bass of Danville; one sister, Mrs. E.C. Brandon of Alton; and two brothers, J.C. Bass of South Boston and J.E. Bass of Richmond. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
