Nathan Gray Bass
Kenly - Nathan Gray Bass, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior early Saturday morning at Wilson Medical Center while surrounded by his loving family. Nathan was born in Wayne County on Jan. 21, 1937, to the late Percy and Viola Rose Bass. Ever a humble man, Nathan lived every day of his life as a servant to God. His love of God and his faith were paramount in his life followed closely by his love for his family, church and friends. Always friendly and ready for a chat with everyone who knew him, Nathan was the same every time you saw him. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service. A service celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Kenly Funeral Service with the Reverend David Currie officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Kenly Cemetery. Nathan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue Harrell Bass; son, Steve Kearney of Kenly; daughter, Beth Bass of Kenly; brothers, Percy Glenn Bass and wife Jean of Kenly, and Tom Bass and wife Sharon of Hampton, Virginia; sisters, Eloise Hinnant of Hampton, Virginia, and Clara Pearson and husband Danny of Lucama; grandchildren, Jordan Elisabeth Kearney and William Walker Kearney; and his great-grandson and little buddy, Ethan James McLamb. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Rose Bass, and his brothers Bobby Bass and Aaron Bass. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to Piney Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Louise Cuddington, 2201 Piney Grove Church Road, Kenly, North Carolina 27542.
