Alfred Ray Bass
Alfred Ray Bass, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025 at Smithfield Manor. Born in Johnston County on January 26, 1930, he was the son of the late Thomas Gavin Bass and Nannie Barbee Bass Bridgers.
In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Radford Bass; and siblings, Lonnie Bass, J.E. Bass, and Joan Langley.
Alfred is survived by his sons, Allen Bass and Lee Bass; sister, Carol Avera; brother, Ronald Bass; and sister-in-law, Faye Bass.
Alfred had a deep love for the outdoors, particularly for fishing and tending to his beloved yard. His vegetable garden was a testament to his patience and dedication, and his lawn was always meticulously kept, reflecting his pride in his home and surroundings.
A true homebody at heart, Alfred's happiest moments were spent at home, working in his yard and garden, or enjoying time with family and friends in the comfort of his own house.
A graveside service to celebrate Alfred's life will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Kenly Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
